Songs of the Week

Every week I go back and forth on whether or not I'm gonna do this.  Late Tuesday night was the day I decided I'd go ahead and start posting it.  If there's ever a week where music doesn't supremely help me out then I guess that's when I'll stop.  Somehow, I don't think that's gonna happen.  Everyone would hate me if I didn't have music.  I'd be one emotional prick.

6th tally for Bo Burnham, 1st tally for Art Is Dead

Art Is Dead - Bo Burnham
My drug's attention.  I am an addict.

63rd tally for Blink-182, 1st tally for MH 4.18.2011

MH 4.18.2011 - Blink-182
Hold strong when everything you loved is gone.

64th tally for Blink-182, 1st tally for Pretty Little Girl

Pretty Little Girl - Blink-182
I'm raising my voice, you raise it up more. We forget that our lives have been apart, it is hard. We thought we are close, but it still feels far. And we learn to get by if we learn to have scars. We learn to forgive and accept who we are. You said if you break my heart then I'll change your mind. And I'll do it again. If you play the part then I will play mine. And I'll do it again. If we miss the mark, if we hold on tight. We'll be there to do it again.

4th tally for Zebrahead, 1st tally for Girlfriend

Girlfriend - Zebrahead
I like that this song gives me an excuse to sing 'Girlfriend.'

5th tally for Zebrahead, 1st tally for All I Want For Christmas

All I Want For Christmas - Zebrahead
I guess this is my unofficial Christmas songs week.

1st tally for The Audition, 1st tally for Basbhat

Basbhat - The Audition
(No Youtube video for the song)
http://picosong.com/3uyy/
I've been misguided by you, I've been mistreated too. If you think I'm gonna take it, no. Thought you had me tied up by a string. On the side, something I've been wanting. Said you're leaving, but to my defense, I was never alone. And I won't ever let this go. This is the path, the life I chose.

2nd tally for The Audition, 1st tally for Let Me Know

Let Me Know - The Audition
If we're gonna make it, please, you gotta let me know, know. 'Cause I'm gonna take it as far as you're willing to go, go. And why can't we just meet in the middle?

1st tally for Fun., 1st tally for Some Nights

Some Nights - Fun.
Some nights, I wish that this all would end 'cause I could use some friends for a change. And some nights, I'm scared you'll forget me again. Some nights, I always win, I always win. But, I still wake up, I still see your ghost. Oh Lord, I'm still not sure what I stand for. What do I stand for? What do I stand for? Most nights, I don't know. So, this is it? I sold my soul for this? Washed my hands of that for this? I miss my mom and dad for this? No, when I see stars, when I see, when I see stars, that's all they are. When I hear songs, they sound like this one, so come on. Well, that is it, guys, that is all. Five minutes in and I'm bored again. Ten years of this, I'm not sure if anybody understands. This one is not for the folks at home. Sorry to leave, mom, I had to go. Who the fuck wants to die alone all dried up in the desert sun?

6th tally for The Used, 1st tally for Alone This Holiday

Alone This Holiday - The Used
Maybe light a candle. Don't say a prayer for me. Feel alone, 'cause I'm gone.

43rd tally for All Time Low, 5th tally for Merry Christmas, Kiss My Ass

Merry Christmas, Kiss My Ass - All Time Low
So sick of calling. You won't telephone me. No, fuck you girl, I'm going out. I gave you my all, but our love hit a wall. Now, I'm jingle bell'ing and everyone's yelling. We'll drink 'til the bars shut us down. Ain't that just what Christmas is all about? And I hope you're happy with yourself, 'cause I'm not laughing. Don't you think it's so damn trashy what you did this holiday? I gave you my heart, you ripped it apart like the wrapping paper trash. So, I wrote you a song, hope that you sing-along. Here it goes. Merry Christmas, bitch, kiss my ass.

14th tally for Sugarcult, 1st tally for Crashing Down

Crashing Down - Sugarcult
I've got nothing that I hide except for what's inside. I keep it all locked up in this prison we call love. I'm suffocating. We come crashing down every time we go this far again. We come tumbling down.

Songs of the Week

The reason I keep writing these things each week is because it's a surreal way for me to look back and judge how I've been progressing through life.  Music really does score my life and my moods.  That being said, fucking Metro Station does nothing to narrate my life.  They're just terribly catchy.  Metro Station and Bone Crusher?  I don't even.

1st tally for The Hours, 1st tally for Ali in the Jungle

Ali in the Jungle - The Hours
Everybody gets knocked down. How quick are you gonna get up?

39th tally for A Day to Remember, 3rd tally for Out of Time

Out of Time - A Day to Remember
Just know that it kills me when I hear anything to do with you.  You will see, oh, believe me.  I need to be right where you are.  And know that I'm leaving and you won't hear for a year from now.  And this kills me, 'cause now I think that everything's, everything's about you.  I thought this was what you wanted.  Someone who gets everything right.  I thought this was what you wanted.  Someone to put you first in their life.

40th tally for A Day to Remember, 6th tally for Better Off This Way

Better Off This Way - A Day to Remember
You want it, you got it. You've always been such a waste of time. You want it, you got it. A friend of yours is no friend of mine. You want it, you got it. When will you act your age? You want it, you got it. You're the reason things have to change.

27th tally for Say Anything, 5th tally for Peace Out

Peace Out - Say Anything
I'll be fine, sever this for all time.  I'll laugh it off when this ends.  You can just go get high with all of your dumb friends, get high with all of your dumb friends.  You were my crutch, now I've escaped your clutch.  So, how is that worm's eye view?  I have grown two broad wings and now I'm above you.

6th tally for Jack's Mannequin, 2nd tally for Dark Blue

Dark Blue - Jack's Mannequin
Have you ever been alone in a crowded room?

1st tally for Metro Station, 1st tally for Shake It

2nd tally for Metro Station, 1st tally for Kelsey

Kelsey - Dude Version of Miley Cyrus
I'll swim the ocean for you - woooaAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

4th tally for Angels And Airwaves, 1st tally for The Adventure

The Adventure - Angels And Airwaves
My dearest friends, even if your hope has burned with time, anything that's dead shall be regrown and your vicious pain - your warning sign.  You will be fine.  Hello, here I am.  And here we go, life's waiting to begin.

8th tally for Halifax, 6th tally for Better Than Sex

Better Than Sex - Halifax
Let's sleep tonight on a bed of nails. So that every other night doesn't seem so painful after all.

1st tally for Bone Crusher, 1st tally for Never Scared (Remix)

Never Scared (Remix) - Bone Crusher feat. Busta "I Killed Michael Myers" Rhymes
That boss as fuck epic scream he does at the beginning of the song

13th tally for Sugarcult, 2nd tally for Do It Alone

Do It Alone - Sugarcult
Hello, can I say that there's something wrong with this place? I've got time, just to waste, if you would be my new escape.

Songs of the Week

Several songs getting their first tallies this week, including an amazing Bears game last Monday against the Cowboys leading to a very special tally.  New Green Day being included as well, I really like ¡Uno! and they have me looking forward to the other two albums coming out soon.

1st tally for Jerry Downs, 1st tally for Bear Down

Bear Down - Jerry Downs
You're the pride and joy of Illinois, Chicago Bears.  Bear down.

4th tally for Four Year Strong, 2nd tally for Fairweather Fan

Just give me one, one good reason to forgive you of your treason.  You turned your back, you ran away at the first sign of light of a brand new day.

2nd tally for Coldplay, 1st tally for Viva la Vida

Viva la Vida - Coldplay
I used to rule the world.  Seas would rise when I gave the word.  Now, in the morning I sleep alone.  Sweep the streets I used to own.

11th tally for Brand New, 5th tally for Last Chance to Lose Your Keys

Last Chance to Lose Your Keys - Brand New
This whole situation is incredibly typical, I should have seen it all along.  It's girls like you that make me think I'm better off at home on a Saturday night with all my doors locked up tight.

9th tally for Green Day, 1st tally for Fell For You

Fell For You - Green Day
You're out of sight, but not out of mind.  I had a dream that I kissed your lips and it felt so true.  Then I woke up as a nervous wreck and I fell for you.  I'll spend the night living in denial.

12th tally for Sugarcult, 1st tally for Saying Goodbye

Saying Goodbye - Sugarcult
She's saying goodbye and leaving tonight.

48th tally for Blink-182, 3rd tally for Story of a Lonely Guy

Story of a Lonely Guy - Blink-182
Lost the words, lost the nerve, lost the girl, left the line.  I would wish upon a star, but that star, it doesn't shine.  So, read my book with a boring ending.  A short story of a lonely guy.

Top 40 Albums (40-31)

Haven't done one of these posts where I document my favorite things in a while, so let's go with my top albums.  We live in the era of the iPod where albums aren't as significant, as a whole, simply because we all can just pick and choose what songs we want to listen to.  That being said, when I was growing up, I had a ton of albums and would listen to them in their entirety quite often.  For a while, I even hung all the album covers I owned on the walls of my room.  I have since been converted to the world of digital music and rarely, if ever, buy albums physically anymore, but it's still cool to see which songs have been gathered together for one album.  I look at a great album almost like an all-star team in sports, a group composed of spectacular players, or in this case, amazing songs all on one album.

As always, there's honorable mentions for these type of lists that I do.  One-X by Three Days Grace, Hypnotize by System of a Down, Cheshire Cat by Blink-182, Dirty Work by All Time Low, and Chuck by Sum 41 didn't quite make the cut.

I should probably bang these posts out over the course of the upcoming week, I imagine.  Keep an eye out for the rest and here's an introduction to the most noteworthy and lasting albums I've listened to in my life.

Song of the Day

I put hundreds of songs on my iPod today and listened to a ton of music, so you know if one song gets the honor of being the song of the day, it's earned it.  Definitely the case here.  An older Sugarcult song, but certainly an awesome one.

11th tally for Sugarcult, 1st tally for Drive All Day

Drive All Day - Sugarcult
Given up, I don't give a fuck.  I'm turning away.

Song(s) of the Day

People opening up to you is pretty nice, huh?  Feels good when people are comfortable talking to me about stuff.  It's very rare for there to be song(s) of the day for music I didn't actually listen to, but personal stuff/feelings can spark the honor, I suppose.

10th tally for Sugarcult, 2nd tally for Pretty Girl (The Way)

Pretty Girl (The Way) - Sugarcult
She's beautiful as usual with bruises on her ego.

4th tally for Secondhand Serenade, 1st tally for Vulnerable

Vulnerable - Secondhand Serenade
If you could only see in the mirror, what I see.

Favorite Songs of All-Time (19-1)

What a long, strange journey this has blah blah blah.  I have LOVED doing this project, probably my favorite one I have ever done since starting this blog in July.  So much amazing music has been re-sparked for me, I have listened to so much music the past month, it truly has been a God-send.  Here's the best of the best

Song(s) of the Day

A long time of listening to music means a ton of songs of the day.  Was really drawn to Sugarcult & The Red Jumpsuit Apparatus today.  I'd like to single out Pretty Girl (The Way) by Sugarcult & The Acoustic Song by The Red Jumpsuit Apparatus as two of my favorite songs.  Absolutely fantastic.

Song of the Day

FINALLY!  Now, I never wake up in the morning and try to think to myself as to which band that deserves to be on the blog should get a song of the day.  I just listen to whatever song is in my head or whatever music I feel like hearing.  Unfortunately, one of my favorite bands, Sugarcult has still yet to have a song of the day!  That was just absurd to me.  Now here they are, with Stuck in America and they've officially popped their song of the day cherry.  Sugarcult is a band I've loved for years now and this song is definitely one of my favorites.  Let's see if these guys can get more than 1 now.  Green Day & Good Charlotte remain as the bands that I'm most shocked have not gotten a song of the day tally.
