Song(s) of the Day(s)

I haven't done one of these posts in a few days now and I've listened to a ton of music, so bear with me.  A lot of thinking lately, believe it or not, I haven't become a mindless drone playing Madden.  Seem to falling back into that ever so comfortable feeling of not really opening up to anyone about anything and being oddly okay with it.  Just sort of making private plans that will probably come to fruition, sooner, rather than later.

I had a long post of songs listed here originally.  They all just kind of lost their relevance to me when this song came up on my shuffle while writing it.  I usually avoid this song like the plague.  Oh well.

Song(s) of the Day

All Time Low, Angels and Airwaves, Blink-182, and Say Anything?  I should have just named this post "Mike's Favorite Bands."  This is like if Twitch.TV did a Hidden Gems program and featured mostly casters that were already popular. Oh wait...

26th tally for All Time Low, 2nd Tally for Sick Little Games

Sick Little Games - All Time Low
They're finding me out, I'm having my doubts.  I'm losing the best of me, dressed up as myself to live in the shadow of who I'm supposed to be.  We're all part of the same sick little games and I need to get away.

27th tally for All Time Low, 4th tally for Merry Christmas, Kiss My Ass

Merry Christmas, Kiss My Ass - All Time Low
I hope you're happy with yourself, 'cause I'm not laughing.

41st tally for Blink-182, 2nd tally for Time to Break Up

Time to Break Up - Blink-182

23rd tally for Say Anything, 4th tally for Peace Out

Peace Out - Say Anything
I'll be fine, sever this for all time.  I'll laugh it off when this ends.  You can just go get high with all of your dumb friends.

3rd tally for Angels and Airwaves, 3rd tally for Do It For Me Now

Do It For Me Now - Angels and Airwaves
I've really had it with the rain of the tears, the predictable storm that has come every year.  And it sneaks in from shore with a bat in its hand.  I'm trying, I'm trying, I'm trying, I can't.  You're a thief and a witch, but I love you to death.  You steal my heart and curse under your breath, but the one thing that I can most willingly prove; that when you are gone, I'll be fine without you.

Random Review (X-Men)

Spider-Man 2 a few days ago and now X-Men today.  The superhero movies are showing up here on the ol' blog.  X-Men was another show I watched growing up and another franchise my family poured a ton of money into action figures for.  I was always a big Cyclops fan, as well as Nightcrawler.  They were my favorites, for sure.  X-Men was released during the superhero boom in cinema during the 2000's and boy did they profit off it.  Come to think of it, with it being released in 2000, X-Men was probably the pioneering superhero movie for that decade.  It sparked everything.  To their credit, it's a very entertaining movie and I'm happy that I own it.

If this is your first Random Review and you're wondering what the fuck I'm doing, I just randomized my DVD collection and decided for shits and giggles, I would watch each one and review it.

Cute Without the 'E' (Cut From the Team) - Taking Back Sunday
Hoping for the best, just hoping nothing happens. A thousand clever lines unread on clever napkins. I will never ask if you don't ever tell me, I know you well enough to know you never loved me. Why can't I feel anything from anyone other than you?

24th tally for All Time Low, 2nd tally for I Feel Like Dancin'

I Feel Like Dancin' - All Time Low
Everybody get, kind of, awesome.

25th tally for All Time Low, 2nd tally for Forget About It

Random Review (Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter)

You know what I love most about this movie?  There were, like, four or five more Friday the 13th movies made after this one.  So much for the final chapter, huh?  This is my second Random Review for a Friday the 13th movie, the last one was the movie that came after this one.  So, I kind of did it a bit backwards, I suppose.  Blame the randomness!

If this is your first Random Review and you're wondering what the fuck I'm doing, I just randomized my DVD collection and decided for shits and giggles, I would watch each one and review it.

Random Review (Spider-Man 2)

I'm a big ol' superhero nerd.  I grew up reading comics, playing video games, watching cartoons, and playing with action figures.  Good God,  I had a ton of action figures.  Spider-Man was always a favorite of mine and I adored the movies for him in the 2000's.  The first two are spectacular and very close in terms of which one is my favorite, while the 3rd one is definitely not as good, I still find enjoyment out of it.  Hell, I even liked the reboot Spider-Man that came out this year.  But nothing will come close to the first two movies created by Sam Raimi and friends.

If this is your first Random Review and you're wondering what the fuck I'm doing, I just randomized my DVD collection and decided for shits and giggles, I would watch each one and review it.

Song(s) of the Day(s)

Song of the Day

Yay rainbows!

7th tally for The Muppets, 2nd tally for Rainbow Connection

Rainbow Connection - The Muppets
Who said that every wish would be heard and answered when we wished on the morning star? Somebody thought of that and someone believed it. Look what it's done so far. What's so amazing that keeps us star gazing and what do we think we might see?

Song of the Day

Words cannot describe how much I adore this song.  From the lyrics to the performance itself - definitely one of my favorites.

10th tally for Brand New, 3rd tally for Seventy Times 7

Seventy Times 7 - Brand New
Don't apologize, I hope you choke and die. Search your cell for something with which to hang yourself. They say you need to pray if you want to go to heaven, but they don't tell you what to say when your whole life has gone to hell.

Song(s) of the Day(s)

Two examples of songs that managed to stand out to me despite 48 hours of a lot of listening to music.  One is an old friend, Better Off This Way, which now has five tallies in total.  Another is Fairweather Fan which I find to be a good song and one with an awesome story behind it.  Four Year Strong recorded the song as a dedication to their fans who have stuck with them since the beginning and made the song available for free download.  Always love to see musicians give back and show that the only thing important is the music.  I love when a song stands out to me like this one did.  I was walking around, a bit distracted by the things around me - the cars, street lights, people, etc.  When I get in that zone, I tend to sort of zone out the music blaring in my ears as it becomes background noise.  Only when an especially good song clicks with me does my brain get pulled back into the music and that's what Fairweather Fan did for me earlier.

33rd tally for A Day to Remember, 5th tally for Better Off This Way

Better Off This Way - A Day to Remember
When you fall, I'll be the only one who looks away. When you call, I'll be the first to tell you I can't stay.

3rd tally for Four Year Strong, 1st tally for Fairweather Fan

Fairweather Fan - Four Year Strong
Just give me one, one good reason to forgive you of your treason. You turned your back, you ran away at the first sign of light of a brand new day.

Songs of Summer 2012

Around a year ago, I did a post documenting the songs that defined my summer in 2011.  I thought it would be a cool thing to do another one for 2012 - now that summer is pretty much over.  Last year was a summer where I zoned in on a core group of songs and listened to them over and over again.  This year is a bit different. As you'll see in this post, I had quite a number of songs that stood out to me.  Different genres and artists, it's actually pretty diverse, which is kinda unique for me.  I think I prefer this summer's crop of songs over last year's.

Song(s) of the Day(s)

Freaks and Geeks has quickly become one of my favorite songs, period.  I usually don't find any rap songs, other than one done by Eminem, to be clever.  I do, however, find this song and many other Childish Gambino songs to be very clever.  I don't know if there's a better rapper out there, right now.  I just can't stop listening to Gambino.

8th tally for Childish Gambino, 3rd tally for Freaks and Geeks

Freaks and Geeks - Childish Gambino
I have worked all winter, I will not fail summer.

9th tally for Childish Gambino, 2nd tally for Not Going Back

Not Going Back - Childish Gambino
I refuse to go back to not liking who I was.

Random Review (SLC Punk)

Growing up, a lot of my movie interests were formed by my sister.  She had a ton of movies sitting in her room and I basically used that area as my own personal Blockbuster.  I'd slide on in there and grab a bunch of movies I thought looked interesting and would watch them.  One flick that was in there was SLC Punk but you know what?  I never watched it.  The side of the VHS box was just some spikey haired punk kid and I just assumed it was some music documentary.  I never grabbed it.  Fast forward many years later to my 2nd semester of college in my film studies class.  We had to do presentations on different movies, namely controversial ones.  The girl I was partners with said she really loved this movie and thought it would be perfect for our presentation, so she let me borrow her copy and I was instantly hooked.

Random Review (NHL - 2012 Stanley Cup: Los Angeles Kings)

Two years ago, my beloved Chicago Blackhawks won the Stanley Cup and I followed along religiously.  It is one of my favorite sports memories.  This marked the first time where a team of mine won it all and I was really intently following and knew what was going on.  The night the DVD commemorating the Cup came out, I was in line waiting at Best Buy for midnight to roll around so I could get my copy signed by Patrick Sharp, a member of the immortal Stanley Cup team.  Ever since then, I have decided I want to collect all Stanley Cup DVDs that come out following that Blackhawks one.  This year, the Los Angeles Kings miraculously brought the Cup to L.A. in spectacular underdog fashion.

If this is your first Random Review and you're wondering what the fuck I'm doing, I just randomized my DVD collection and decided for shits and giggles, I would watch each one and review it.

Song of the Day

Was watching Raw all night with a host of awesome people and it's safe to say AJ was a big hit with all of us.  She's so damn cute.

Random Review (MLB - Baseball's Greatest Rivalries)

This would be my first Random Review that isn't a movie.  This is a DVD that documents all of baseball's greatest rivalries, just as the title suggests.  I'm a huge baseball nerd, which I would assume is painfully obvious at this point.  I've had this DVD for quite a while, pretty sure it was made in 2003 or 2004, so it's almost a decade old.  It brings me back to that time when I was a young baseball fan and sparks up all the old and awesome memories.

If this is your first Random Review and you're wondering what the fuck I'm doing, I just randomized my DVD collection and decided for shits and giggles, I would watch each one and review it.

Song of the Day

Doesn't usually happen often, but here we are with Homesick getting back-to-back song of the day honors.

32nd tally for A Day to Remember, 3rd tally for Homesick

Homesick - A Day to Remember
At this rate, I think my fate's been sealed.  This life's so unpredictable.

Awesomeness Abounds Projections

Welcome, one and all, to the fantasy football season!  Fantasy Football, played by millions of people around the world, has become a staple of the NFL season.  I am in quite a few leagues, myself, but the most important is, of course, Awesomeness Abounds featuring many Twitch.TV personalities all vying to establish themselves as the best.  The bragging rights are there for the taking and I am primed and ready to defend my 2011 Awesomeness Abounds championship.  I am all set to take this league to the next nerdy level and write up a whole preview for the league, RIGHT HERE.  We did a pretty in-depth league this year with many roster spots and a lot of teams.  It's really going to take a keen fantasy mind to come out victorious this year.  It's anyone's game.

Random Review (Saw IV)

Here's the epitome of my title, a random review if you'll ever see one.  I, of course, randomized my collection and Saw IV was the first one of the franchise that ended up on my list - so here I am reviewing it.  I'm a Saw fan, for sure, despite the ridicule it receives from people.  Opposition of this franchise like to refer to it as "torture porn" which is highly overly negative, but whatever.  It's a good little mystery based horror franchise that you can tell the writers put in a good amount of work for.  The continuity throughout the seven films is there and very consistent - something very uncommon for horror franchises.  Can't really discuss a Saw film without spoilers, so even though the movies have been out for a while now, keep in mind of that.

If this is your first Random Review and you're wondering what the fuck I'm doing, I just randomized my DVD collection and decided for shits and giggles, I would watch each one and review it.

Song of the Day

Truth be told, this song has been stuck in my head all week.  It's about time it gets a song of the day.

31st tally for A Day to Remember, 2nd tally for Homesick

Homesick - A Day to Remember

Random Review (Pineapple Express)

Been a bit of time since I've last done one of these reviews, but between work and writing a lot more sports articles - really haven't had a ton of time to do this.  It's okay, though, because with these series of posts, I never really gave myself any set deadline.  It's just something I can do whenever I'm bored.  I have the day off today and, well, I'm bored!  The first time I saw Pineapple Express, I didn't really enjoy it that much.  I chuckled here and there, but it certainly wouldn't be considered a Top 100 movie of mine (like it is now).  It was one of those flicks that I gave a second chance and it paid off.

If this is your first Random Review and you're wondering what the fuck I'm doing, I just randomized my DVD collection and decided for shits and giggles, I would watch each one and review it.

Song of the Day

In the past couple days, it has been pretty difficult for me to turn off Childish Gambino.  New Found Glory has managed to sneak some songs in and All Downhill From Here has definitely stood out.

7th tally for New Found Glory, 1st tally for All Downhill From Here

All Downhill From Here - New Found Glory

Childish Gambino has dominated the past two days.  It's really been no contest, Not Going Back especially.

Took the "G" out your waffle, all you got left is your ego.

6th tally for Childish Gambino, 1st tally for Be Alone

Not Going Back - Childish Gambino
Couldn't see me as Spider-Man, but now I'm spittin' venom.  Now you payin' attention, pick your fuckin' face up.  When I wanna be a superhero, I just wake up.  Renaissance man with a Hollywood buzz.  I refuse to go back to not likin' who I was.

Song(s) of the Day(s)

I've really been into listening to whiny pop punk songs complaining about how shitty people are lately.  That and Niggas In Paris, because, like, I ball hard.  Consistently.

14th tally for Simple Plan, 3rd tally for Thank You

Thank You - Simple Plan

Ball so hard motherfuckers wanna fine me.

30th tally for A Day to Remember, 2nd tally for If I Leave

If I Leave - A Day to Remember
In the beginning, I was up front.  Nothing to think about, you'd always hear me out.  We made a pact to never give up.  When everything would change, we'd always stay the same.  Something went wrong along the way, you'd come around and there's nothing left to say.  It's like we're strangers, anyway.  What more could you ask of me?  It's been a long time coming, but everyone's gonna hear me now.  If I leave, bet you'll wish I'd stayed.  Make you regret all the things you said to me.

7th tally for Green Day, 1st tally for American Idiot

American Idiot - Green Day
Maybe I'm the faggot America.  I'm not a part of a redneck agenda.
