Songs of the Week

Another week down.  2012 is almost over and I really can't wait for 2013.  Stuff happened (or rather, stuff didn't happen) this week that was pretty lame.  Christmas, my birthday...pretty eventful week I guess.

4th tally for Madina Lake, 1st tally for Now Or Never

Now Or Never - Madina Lake
I remember when you told me, I should live like I'm dying and not to close my eyes while everything burns.

6th tally for You, Me, And Everyone We Know, 1st tally for I'd Be More Interested If You Were Already Spoken For

I'd Be More Interested If You Were Already Spoken For - You, Me, And Everyone We Know
Cross your fingers and hope he buys all the shit you feed him.

2nd tally for Less Than Jake, 1st tally for Overrated (Everything Is)

Overrated (Everything Is) - Less Than Jake
Maybe I'm jaded and bored, always looking for more. Wait around for the next big fix. I know I'm a wreck, I'm a mess, but I couldn't care less. Don't know what it would take to change me. Everybody's so afraid to be different. Please, excuse me now if I don't get it. I think sex is overrated, so is always getting wasted. Designer drugs and dead-end jobs and classic rock is so outdated.

1st tally for Fort Minor, 1st tally for Where'd You Go

Where'd You Go - Fort Minor
Now, you only stop by every once and a while. Shit, I find myself just filling my time with anything to keep the thought of you from my mind. I'm doing fine and I'm planning to keep it that way. You can call me if you find you have something to say. And I'll tell you, I want you to know it's a little fucked up that I'm stuck here waiting, at time's debating.

6th tally for Plain White T's, 3rd tally for Hate (I Really Don't Like You)

Hate (I Really Don't Like You) - Plain White T's
Thought that everything was perfect. Isn't that how it's supposed to be? Thought you thought I was worth it. Now, I think a little differently. All I wanted was your love.

44th tally for All Time Low, 6th tally for Merry Christmas, Kiss My Ass

Merry Christmas, Kiss My Ass - All Time Low
I gave you my all but our love hit a wall.

10th tally for Angels & Airwaves, 2nd tally for Dry Your Eyes

Dry Your Eyes - Angels & Airwaves
I'm not for this and all you ever do is stall. I am so damn sick of trying and now we are fucked because we've wrecked it all.

Songs of the Week

I have no idea if I'm going to do this post a week from now.  We'll see, I guess.  Life seriously needs some spoiler alerts.  Although, I'm almost always correct with my instincts anyway (and they're usually bad, but meh, you get used to it).  Either someone/thing is gonna have to prove me wrong for once (doubtful) or I'll just get used to knowing what's gonna happen well in advance.  Until then, I'll pop on my iPod and lose track of time while I write stuff.  See you next week?  Maybe.  For all none of you who read this.

Side note - Dirty Laundry may be my favorite collection of lyrics for a song, ever.

Songs Tally

5th tally for You, Me and Everyone We Know, 3rd tally for Dirty Laundry

Dirty Laundry - You, Me and Everyone We Know
All alone again.  I speak as if I'd last one minute with eyes not fixed upon this screen.  Stalking the girls I could never fuck.  I mean, they're sluts but it seems I lack that luck.  And I'm not the man to wash my hands all alone or acting like we've hit it off, 'cause either way I'm just jerking someone off.  At 2 AM, dicks out and pissing, 'til you leave town wishing.  I won't be satisfied.  Things are gonna be different now you see.  And add to all this dirty laundry you left me.  It's getting air and with heavy rotation.  You'd better have a damn good explanation.  You act as though you have lived a lie because your tan's been overcooked.  But, I've been burned and burned and burned and burned.

6th tally for Secondhand Serenade, 2nd tally for Vulnerable

Vulnerable - Secondhand Serenade
Your slowly shaking fingertips show that you're scared like me, so let's pretend we're alone.  And I know you may be scared and I know we're unprepared, but I don't care.  Tell me, tell me what makes you think that you are invincible?  I can see it in your eyes that you're so sure.  Please, don't tell me that I'm the only one that's vulnerable.  Impossible.

5th tally for The Used, 2nd tally for All That I've Got

All That I've Got - The Used
I'll be just fine pretending I'm not. I'm far from lonely and it's all that I've got.

24th tally for Say Anything, 1st tally for Wow, I Can Get Sexual Too

Wow, I Can Get Sexual Too - Say Anything
I called her on the phone and she touched herself.  I laughed myself to sleep.

25th tally for Say Anything, 2nd tally for Colorblind

Colorblind - Say Anything
Here comes a view I've seen a million times.  Here comes a boring song with thoughtless rhymes.  I know you're sick of me, so tell me here, because you could have been the one to make it all disappear.  But, I move too slow and I think too fast and the first rainbow I see will be the last.

26th tally for Say Anything, 2nd tally for Hate Everyone

Hate Everyone - Say Anything
Did you know that there are people in the world annoyed with all the other people in the world?  And of all these angry people in the world, I am the angriest boy.

1st tally for Gavin DeGraw, 1st tally for I Don't Wanna Be

I Don't Wanna Be - Gavin DeGraw
I don't wanna be anything other than what I've been trying to be lately.

13th tally for Childish Gambino, 2nd tally for Be Alone

Be Alone - Childish Gambino
My swag Jehovah Witness, dude, it never take a holiday.

2nd tally for Kid Cudi, 2nd tally for Pursuit of Happiness

Pursuit of Happiness - Kid Cudi
Pursuit of happiness, yeah.  I don't get it, I'll be good.

1st tally for Motion City Soundtrack, 1st tally for The Future Freaks Me Out

The Future Freaks Me Out - Motion City Soundtrack
It's so hard to relate to the whole human race. I don't know where to begin, I don't know where to begin. If we can both find a way to do the things that we say, we might not sit in our rooms and drink our daydreams away.  Betty, I'm a dreamer, I'm not a vicious schemer.  Oh, Betty won't you - ah, fuck it.

49th tally for Blink-182, 2nd tally for What Went Wrong

What Went Wrong - Blink-182
I'm sick of always hearing all the sad songs on the radio.  All day it is there to remind an over sensitive guy that he's lost and alone.

50th tally for Blink-182, 4th tally for Wishing Well

Wishing Well - Blink-182
I reached for a shooting star, it burned a hole through my hand.

5th tally for Sum 41, 1st tally for In Too Deep

In Too Deep - Sum 41
The faster we're falling, we're stopping and stalling.  We're running in circles again.  Just as things were looking up you said it wasn't good enough, but still we're trying one more time.  Maybe we're just trying too hard when really it's closer than it is too far.  'Cause I'm in too deep and I'm trying to keep up above in my head instead of going under.

Songs of the Week

This week really became centered around music on Tuesday.  There's a lot going on in my life right, more so than I'm used to.  A lot of moving parts and new things.  I'm nervous as fuck, but kind of enjoying every moment of it.  Music was there to put everything into perspective and slow things down.  Side note - it's almost impossible for me to choose just one part of the lyrics in the song Therapy.  I kind of wanted to post the entire thing.  My mind has been going a million miles a minute for over a week now.  Also, this is easily my most diverse group of musicians I've ever had in one week.  Kind of awesome, if you ask me.

35th tally for All Time Low, 2nd tally for The Irony of Choking on a Lifesaver

The Irony of Choking on a Lifesaver - All Time Low
That's just my luck these days.  Why can't you just be happy for me?

36th tally for All Time Low, 3rd tally for Therapy

Therapy - All Time Low
Give me therapy, I'm a walking travesty, but I'm smiling at everything. Therapy, you were never a friend to me. You can take back your misery. Arrogant boy, love yourself so no one has to. They're better off without you.  Arrogant boy, cause a scene like you're supposed to.  They'll fall asleep without you.  You're lucky if your memory remains.

1st tally for The Doors, 1st tally for Break on Through (To the Other Side)

Break on Through (To the Other Side) - The Doors
You know the day destroys the night, night divides the day.  Tried to run, tried to hide.  Break on through to the other side.

11th tally for Green Day, 1st tally for Let Yourself Go

Let Yourself Go - Green Day
Cut the crap 'cause you're screaming in my ear and you're taking up all of the space. You're really testing my patience again and I'd rather get punched in the face.  You're getting on my every last nerve, everything you've said I've already heard.  I'm sick to death of your every least breath and I don't give a fuck anyway.

3rd tally for Box Car Racer, 2nd tally for Letters to God

Letters to God - Box Car Racer
I won't lie, I won't sin.  Maybe I don't wanna go.  Can't you wait?  Maybe I don't wanna go.

38th tally for A Day to Remember, 3rd tally for You Had Me at Hello

You Had Me at Hello - A Day to Remember
What have I gotten into this time around?  I know that I had sworn I'd never trust anyone again, but I didn't have to.  You had me at hello.

14th tally for Brand New, 2nd tally for Failure by Design

Failure by Design - Brand New
This is a lesson in procrastination.  I kill myself because I'm so frustrated.  Every single second that I put it off means another lonely night I got to race the clock.

1st tally for Semisonic, 1st tall for Closing Time

Closing Time - Semisonic
Closing time.  You don't have to go home, but you can't stay here.  I know who I want to take me home.

4th tally for Hollywood Undead, 1st tally for Everywhere I Go

Everywhere I Go - Hollywood Undead
My signing bonus was quickly spent, so I'll beat my meat like I'm a fuckin' butcher and I'll punk the pussy like I'm Ashton Kutcher.

4th tally for You, Me and Everyone We Know, 2nd tally for Carolina Heat

Carolina Heat - You, Me and Everyone We Know
We're at the tip-top, yeah, we're not getting any better than this.  I'm out of lines, girl, we're not getting any smoother than this, but could you blame if I, if I, if I took you all for prisoner with just one line, one lie because I'll be the preacher to all his converts.  Donate now to my rightful cause.  But what good is a quick healing to go if the lesson is never learned, it's just like stitches for show?

1st tally for Eminem, 1st tally for Superman

Superman - Eminem
You don't want that, neither do I.  I don't want to flip when I see you with guys.  Too much pride, between you and I, not a jealous man, but females lie.  But, I guess that's just what sluts do, how could it ever be just us two?  I'd never love you enough to trust you, we just met and I just fucked you.

1st tally for Alex Clare, 1st tally for Too Close

Too Close - Alex Clare
I can't lie no more, I can't hide no more.  Got to be true to myself.  And it feels like I am just too close to love you.  So, I'll be on my way.

Perfect Situation - Weezer
There's the pitch, slow and straight.  All I have to do is swing and I'm a hero.  But, I'm a zero.

Many folks, they never heard of me so I'm gonna introduce myself using some hyperbole

1st tally for Katy Perry, 1st tally for Firework

Firework - Katy Perry
Katy Perry has nice boobs.

Song of the Day

You know what I love?  When people trivialize the nice things I do and completely ignore them.  Totally motivates me to keep being a nice guy!  Raging sarcasm aside, I must have dreamed about this song or something because I woke up with it stuck in my head.  I really wish You, Me, and Everyone We Know didn't break up.  Would love to hear more music from them.

2nd tally for You, Me, and Everyone We Know, 1st tally for Dirty Laundry

Dirty Laundry - You, Me, and Everyone We Know
Things are gonna be different now, you see.  And add to all this dirty laundry you left me.  It's getting air and with heavy rotation.  You'd better have a damn good explanation.

Song of the Day

This song epitomizes the point of my song of the day posts.  I fell asleep last night with my iPod on & this was the first song I had played.  A few hours later, while I woke up, this track was still going through my head.  There wasn't a moment at all during the day, especially when I was working, this song wasn't playing in my head.  I played it when I got home from work & it honestly felt like a drug addict who just got his first heroin hit in days.  I really really dig the style of music You, Me, and Everyone We Know makes & their lyrics are creative & entertaining.  It's a joy to listen to them, for me.  Carolina Heat, especially, is one of those songs that I love the lyrics to & can't help but to connect to what I'm listening to.  I have REALLY been into them lately, wouldn't be surprised if they garnered a few more tallies in the future.  It's safe to say I'm hooked.

If I may go on a personal diatribe, there's a lyric in this song I Tweeted earlier that I adore.  Your skin was appealing wallpaper, now your skin is just peeling wallpaper.  It is a perfect metaphor for how I feel lately.  Do not get it twisted here, I am not some lonely depressed person yearning for what has been lost.  Quite the opposite.  I am simply just pissed off at everything & sick of having people in my life who lie to me, deceive me, & think I'm oblivious to everything.  I have been doing quite alright lately but a text message from someone the other day really sparked this.  Here's a protip, I am spectacular at finding things out.  You know what I'd kill for right now?  Someone in my life who wasn't a perennial disappointment and could actually prove to me that they're worth while.  I am really starting to lose space on my back, so the whole stabbing me there thing can stop anytime now.  I just love that I live in a world where I'm not even allowed to open up like this, because God forbid the dude who holds everything in actually speaks his mind.  Ah well, let's go back to listening to music, shall we?  Because when there's no one there to hear you, the music will listen.

1st tally for You, Me, and Everyone We Know, 1st tally for Carolina Heat

Favorite Songs of All-Time (238-224)

Okay, so it looks like I have some explaining to do here.  I suppose I could start with the insanely random number of 238 as my total amount of songs ranked.  Well, many moons ago, I made a playlist on my iPod dubbed "Ol' Reliable" which was basically a playlist of all my "favorite" songs.  The songs that when I hear them, no matter what, I never skip past them.  I didn't make the list with a set number in mind and over the months, I have added even more songs.  So as of right now, the playlist has 238 songs on it and thus, I will be ranking all of them over the next couple weeks from 238 until number 1.  This is pretty similar to my favorite movies of all-time post I did a while ago.  You're going to see quite a bit of reptetion when it comes to bands, but hey, I know what I like.  I just figured, since I listen to my iPod so much, it could be a fun little project for me to bestow upon myself.

With my impeccable math skills, I figured out that 238 divided by 14 is 17, which means I'll be doing 17 posts over the next 2+ weeks featuring 14 songs in each one until we're all done.

I have never been one who is ashamed of the music he listens to, nor do I ridicule others for liking their favorite songs.  If you enjoy it, if it speaks to you, sparks some sort of emotion in you, then it's doing its job if you ask me.

I like to post lyrics with my songs, not always because I relate to them personally (although more often than not, that is the reason) but honestly because I may just think it's a powerful/good/clever line.  Not everything I post is directly how I feel.

I'm rambling now.  Let's get to it.
