Who the hell is Rob Lowe?
Some actor named Rob Lowe took to Twitter yesterday to announce some Earth shattering news.  Peyton Manning is going to retire.  Lowe, who is apparently good friends with the Colts owner Jim Irsay, said that his "people" have informed him that Manning is going to retire.  Regardless if it's true or not (I don't think it is) why would he run to Twitter and tell everyone instead of allowing Manning, a future Hall of Fame inductee when he DOES retire, to announce it to everyone on his own time.  Classy move of Lowe to steal the spotlight away.  Doing some remedial research on this dude, I've found out that he was in Wayne's World (which I have never seen) and Tommy Boy (a role in which he plays a douche bag, which seems to fit him well) He is also in the television show Parks and Recreation (another one I've never seen and is currently rumored to be on the chopping block) For what it's worth, Peyton's father Archie has said he doesn't think his son will retire.  I hope Manning himself comes out soon and announces his intentions soon.

And This Happened...

Texas Rangers sign Yu Darvish to a 6 year $60 million deal - The Texas Ranger won the negotiating rights with Japanese import Yu Darvish a month ago, bidding a staggering $51.7 million simply just to TALK to the kid.  Now the 25-year-old Darvish has had $110 million invested in him by the Texas Rangers despite never throwing a pitch in the MLB.  The Rangers are desperate for pitching after losing C.J. Wilson to their division rival in Los Angeles and need to try and stop the Angels other huge acquisition, Albert Pujols.  The last time a Japanese pitcher made this much of an impact followed with as much hype was Daisuke Matsuzaka who ultimately signed with the Boston Red Sox.  Dice-K has been largely a disappointment for Boston and Texas hopes history doesn't repeat itself, again.  Between the negotiating fee & contract itself, Darvish has become the most expensive right handed pitcher of all-time.

Chicago Blackhawks rout Buffalo to overtake the number 1 seed - The NHL Western Conference is a continuing carousel of teams right now with the Blackhawks as the number 1 seed with 62 points after beating the Sabres 6-2 last night.  All-star Jonathan Toews scored 2 goals and now has a total of 26 on the season, good for 2nd best in the league.  The struggling Sabres have now lost a staggering 10 games in a row as they continue to spiral and may be looking to move players.  Derek Roy could be a player on the move and be a splendid addition to the Blackhawks.  Regardless of what happens, the Western Conference playoff picture is far from settled and could go down to the very last day.  As it stands now, the Blackhawks are all alone on top.

Clippers defeat Mavericks with last-second shot from Billups - In what was an amazing game, the Los Angeles Clippers were able to squeak out a win against the Dallas Mavericks at home without Chris Paul.  Paul, who sat out with a hamstring strain, was replaced on the floor with Mo Williams & Chauncey Billups and they barely missed a beat.  Williams had 26 points while Billups had 21, including the game-winning 3 pointer with the game tied with 1 second left.  Billups' big shot happened mere moments after Mavericks SG Jason Terry tied the game with a 3 pointer with 5 seconds left.  This was a huge win for the Clippers as it proved that they aren't simply reliant on Chris Paul.  They're a very deep team that have the depth and experience to make a run in the playoffs.

Ryan Braun to accept his NL MVP award amidst controversy - Milwaukee Brewers OF Ryan Braun hit for a .332 batting average, 33 HR, & 111 RBI last year and was voted as the NL MVP after leading the Brewers to an NL Central Division title.  In December, it was reported that Braun tested positive for performance enhancing drugs and is now facing a 50 game suspension for the start of next season, despite this, he will accept his award at a banquet while making a speech.  The MLB has no intentions of revoking the award from Braun, who claims the results are skewed and he never took any enhancers.  Whether he likes it or not, this award will forever be tainted for him and a sizable amount of people will forever believe he is an undeserving winner.  Runner-up to the MVP Matt Kemp will surely receive plenty of support from those who say Braun cheated his way to the MVP.
