Miami Heat come back & defeat San Antonio
A Dwyane Wade-less Miami Heat team hosted the San Antonio Spurs in the American Airlines arena and pulled off a pretty impressive comeback victory.  The 9-5 Spurs were leading 63-49 against the 9-4 Heat at halftime and looked to be on cruise control against a Heat team missing their all-star shooting guard.  Not so fast, there's a reason the Spurs are 0-5 on the road this year.  The Heat erupted for 39 points in the 3rd quarter with LeBron James leading the way with 33 points & 10 assists by game's end while Chris Bosh poured in 30 points of his own.  Mike Miller, who made his season debut, was perfect from 3-point land draining 6 shots for 18 points off the bench.  The Spurs, who looked dominant in the first half, became stagnant in the 2nd and struggled with Miami's stifling defense, only managing to score 12 points in the 3rd quarter.  You know it's a rough day for the offense when Daniel Green scores 20 points and is your team's leading scorer.  The Spurs desperately miss Manu Ginobili, who has missed the past couple weeks worth of games and is still not close to returning.  Richard Jefferson added nothing for the Spurs, playing 23 minutes and not scoring a single point, along with Tim Duncan only getting 8 points.  A signature victory for Miami and a loss San Antonio will want to quickly put in the rear-view mirror.

And This Happened...

Tim Tebow played with torn cartilage in his ribs against the Patriots - Since I can't possibly go more than one day without discussing Tim Tebow, I'll mention that the dude is tough as hell.  Despite he & his team getting dismantled by a vastly superior New England Patriots team 45-10 last weekend in the playoffs, Tebow continued to play through an injury that occurred early in the 3rd quarter.  The Patriots defense was relentless in their attack of Tebow and caused a tear to the cartilage in his ribs which caused fluid buildup in his chest along with a bruised lung.  He is currently going through rehab during the offseason and expects to be ready in time for training camp.

The Colts fire head coach Jim Caldwell - There were conflicting reports yesterday as to whether or Jim Caldwell would keep his job as head coach for the 2-14 Indianapolis Colts.  The prevailing decision was ultimately, Caldwell was gone.  It's unclear what direction the Colts will be going after this abysmal season.  Peyton Manning didn't play a single game and it's unknown if he'll be brought back or possibly traded.  There are several key free-agents on this team and they must decide if they want to try and give it another go as a unit, or completely dismantle the roster and draft QB Andrew Luck with their 1st overall pick and try to rebuild.  One thing is for sure, this formerly elite team is definitely one to keep an eye on over the course of the next several months.

Baltimore Ravens safety Ed Reed criticizes QB Joe Flacco - Ed Reed isn't quite sure if Joe Flacco is ready for the big time, it seems.  After last weekend's victory over the Houston Texans, safety Ed Reed took to the airwaves and proclaimed that Joe Flacco was "rattled."  Flacco, who was sacked 5 times in the game, seemed to be unsure of himself throughout the game and Ed Reed and the rest of the Baltimore defense took notice.  It's hard not to notice when your offense only scores 3 points in the final 46 minutes of the game while your defense continues to play stellar.  If the Ravens hope to make the Super Bowl, their offense has got to match the high output of their defense.  That means Joe Flacco needs to stop playing like a scared rookie and realize he's a decent veteran QB.

Detroit Tigers DH Victor Martinez to miss the 2012 season - Former all-star Victor Martinez hit for an extremely productive .330 average last year with 103 RBI for the AL Central Division winning Detroit Tigers.  He was invaluable for an offense led by Miguel Cabrera, especially considering how disappointing Magglio Ordonez & Carlos Guillen were last year.  The Tigers will have to learn to win without him this year, as it has been revealed he has a torn left ACL, an injury stemming from offseason conditioning.  Surgery is likely for the 33 year-old DH and Detroit will be left scrambling to fill the void he leaves in this lineup.  Considering that power-hitting 1B Prince Fielder is still on the market, I wouldn't be surprised if Detroit decided to make a run at him out of necessity.
